The Department of Labour has implemented the minimum wage schedule which is applicable as from the 01st July 2013. This is applicable for all industries in the Hospitality Sector and has been gazetted as from the 01st July 2013 for the entire Hospitality Sector.

The sector is divided into minimum wages for employers with (ten) 10 or less employees and for employers with more than ten (10) employees. For less than ten (10) employees the monthly wage is R2 415.86 and for over ten (10) employees is R2 692.74. These amounts can be calculated on a weekly and hourly basis as well.

It should further more be noted that employers cannot force employees to pay for uniforms or pay any form of deposit for the uniform. Over and above this they cannot deduct from the remuneration of the employee for the uniform.

There will be a further increase on the 01st July 2014 which will be calculated on the minimum wage plus consumer price index plus one and a half percent.
